Glenn Dickson. clarinet, band leader, composer. Glenn is a graduate of New England Conservatory where he played and studied with microtonal legend Joe Maneri. He went on to tour and record with Shirim Klezmer Orchestra. With Shirim he has toured across the USA, Canada and Europe, produced 7 CDs, collaborated with Maurice Sendak, been featured on Woody Allen's "Deconstructing Harry" soundtrack, performed with the Philly Pops, and many other wild and wonderful projects. He has also played with various bands, including a stint with the Hypnotic Clambake, Joe Maneri's Sextet, Meraki, and many others. As a composer he has won a Massachusetts Cultural Council Artist Grant in composition and has had his music used by Woody Allen and many others.
Michael McLaughlin, accordion, composer.Michael McLaughlin has been a part of the Boston Klezmer and Jewish music scene since 1995 as a performer, arranger and composer for The Shirim Klezmer Orchestra, and Naftule's Dream. Over the years he has worked with members of The Klezmer Conservatory Band, and The Klezmatics, while bringing Klezmer music to the New England region with Klezwoods and the Yaeko Miranda Quintet. Performances have included the Helsinki Klezmer Festival, the Berlin Jazz Festival, the Texaco Jazz Festival in NYC as well as the Ashkenaz New Jewish Music Festival. McLaughlin holds a D.M.A in Music Composition from the New England Conservatory (’09), a MA in Music Composition from Tufts University ('99), and a BM from Berklee College of Music ('93). He was a recipient of a Mass Cultural Council Artist Grant award in composition. ('01) His music can be heard on Tzadik Records, Newport Classics, Ryko Disc, Accurate Records and more.
Guitarist Andrew Stern plays in Boston and greater New England with the Gill Aharon Trio, Brian Carpenter and the Confessions, and his own groups: Old Soldiers, the Andrew Stern Trio, Union Suit, Ugly Beauty, and Third I and Telescope.
Gary Bohanperforms trumpet, cornet and fluglehorn with a variety a Boston-based bands encompassing a range of styles including klezmer, jazz, big band and dixieland. These bands include the Brad Ellenberg Quintet, Jazz Composers Alliance (JCA) Orchestra, Naftule's Dream and the Shirim Klezmer Orchestra among others. Gary was a member of the Klezmer Conservatory Band for ten years during which he toured throughout North America, Europe and Australia. He also toured with Itzhak Perlman's "In the Fiddler's House" project which resulted in a PBS documentary and two best-selling recordings. In addition, he leads his own Hot Vintage Jazz Band featuring music from the 1920s and 30s.
Tubaplayer Jim Gray also performs with the Shirim Klezmer Orchestra, Klezwoods and Cirkestra. His past groups include the Canton Symphony, The Cleveland Pops Orchestra, the Paramount Brass, and the Jazz Composer's Alliance Orchestra.
Eric Rosenthal, drums, has developed a prominent career playing jazz and improvised music, recording and performing internationally with the big band Either/Orchestra, Roswell Rudd, Anthony Braxton, blues artist David Maxwell, John Voigt, Bhob Rainey, Jack Wright and others. He is currently a member of the Charlie Kolhase Quintet, the Dave Bryant Quartet (Dave is a former member of Ornette Coleman's Prime Time) and the Jewish music groups Shirim Klezmer Orchestra and Paul Brody's Sadawi based in Berlin.
