Naftule’s Dream emerged in the late 1990’s as a new music project for the members of the traditional klezmer band, Shirim Klezmer Orchestra. The band has since recorded three albums for John Zorn’s Tzadik label, and one for Innova, garnering unwaivering critical praise for its recordings and performances in both North America and Europe. A post-klezmer, rock-inspired, free-jazz-tinged amalgam, Naftule’s Dream delights in taking its audiences on journeys through emotionally raw and musically fantastic dreamscapes.
Performances have included the Berlin Jazz Festival, Gratz Jazz Summit (Austria), the New York Jazz Festival, the Bell Atlantic Jazz Festival (Washington DC), World Music Festival (Chicago, IL) and many others. Naftule’s Dream has won three grants from Arts International for tour support to international festivals in Europe and has developed an important creative relationship with John Zorn and master producer/sound wizard Bill Laswell.
